Sigiriya
The historic site of Sigiriya is located north east of Colombo, and is a part of the famous Cultural Triangle of Sri Lanka, encompassing Sigiriya – Polonnaruwa – Dambulla caves.
Sigiriya rock towers over the surrounding landscape with steep steps leading to the ruins of the 5th century fort on top. Also known as Lion’s rock, this ancient rock fortress is surrounded by the remains of an extensive network of gardens, reservoirs, and other structures. Sigiriya is also renowned for its ancient frescos, reminiscent of the Ajanta Caves in India.
